The Work Continues 1933 Ford. I bought a 1933 Ford two door sedan a while back and have been working on completing a few repairs. I noticed the rear axle bearing was leaking so I pulled the axle. The housing was packed full of silicone on the outside of the bearing where the axle flange connects. When I examined the bearing there was no o ring or oil seal on the bearing. There was also no place in the housing for a seal. I called the previous owner and had told me he had had the rear end narrowed to fit the car. So with that said I am wondering if the folks who narrowed the rear end removed the place for the seal or if they installed the wrong axle bearing. The solution for me was to go to one of the remaining real auto parts stores in the area and locate a bearing with an external seal on the back side with the axle flange. We do have one parts store in the area that is actually able to help with these kind of issues. I did get the bearings changed and the car back on the road. Still not sure why anyone would pack the housing with silicone instead of fixing the problem. Willie Moore
