I pulled and checked the coil over shocks on my car this morning and as I suspected one of the shocks on the rear is leaking and does not appear to be working correctly. I went to the Speedway site to check and see what spring rate I needed and they do not have that chart for spring weight suggestions any longer. My car is an all steel 32 Ford full fendered 2 dr sedan. Mustang II front end and 8" Ford Rear end. The shock is 9 1/2 " closed, 13 1/2 " opened. It is approximately 12 1/2"-13" when installed with an 8" long spring on it. Does anyone have a suggestion for what coil overs would be recommended and spring weight for this car?

I just found that I have the same problem. The right side rear coil/over shock is leaking. I think it happened because I had the car set-up pretty low in the rear and the shocks would bottom out inside the shock if I hit a big bump. I've since raised the rear, but, of course, the shock is still leaking. I'm assuming I can replace just the shock and keep the spring and all the hardware. Hope I'm right. I like the way it rides. Got mine through Pete & Jakes. I'll have to give them a call.
They do have a chart in their catalog,The charts are different for each brand of coil overs.
mounted length comp. length ext length spring rate 1/2 car weight
12" 9.5" 13.5" 8"-200lbs. 1100lbs.
12" 9.5" 13.5" 8"-250lbs 1250lbs
12" 9.5" 13.5" 8"-325lbs 1450lbs
12" 9.5" 13.5" 8"-375lbs 1650lbs
12" 9.5" 13.5" 8"-450lbs 1900lbs
These are the aluminum small body coil overs part# 582400b-f on page 53 in their catalog
Boy that chart went to hell in a hurry
I put ALDEN SHOCKS on the rear of my "A" around 4 years ago and had no problems. Give them a call, they told me I needed a 200lb. spring and they were right on with that.
Thanks for the info. The 200lb was what I was looking for. Thank you
