Casting GM 397001
Front right pad of block is stamped: V12I9CMA
The previous owner said that the frame is out of a 73 Nova. Who knows if the engine is out of the same car, but one day I'll need an engine part.... Alternator is on the passenger side. What year did they move it?
He said it's a 327, and I asked "327 punched out to a 350", and he said no it's a 327. I'll say this, the thing runs strong!

Any chance you've got a typo there? Could it be 397010?
The difference between a 327 and a 350 is the stroke. Both of them have a 4 inch bore,327 has a shorter stroke crank. A large journal crank block can be either of them
Yes, probaly 3970010, '68 to '79, 327 or 350, 2 or 4 bolt mains, Truck & HiPerf, 145 to 375 HP. Sounds like a good one. 327's make great power! MC
If it was a 4 bolt main then it wasnt a 327
Not OEM anyway. You can make a large-journal 4-bolt 327, but they didn't come from the factory that way.
I thought the DZ302 had 4 bolt mains!
That was a 327 with a short crank wasn't it?It was a "302" Indian!!
I still have my orignal 327 in my 1968 corvette, which is going back together slowly after that accident we had 2 yrs ago
Anybody got a small journal 327 crank that's not as bad as mine! Mine is .030 under already and it has some scoring on it.
Yeah, talking about the "old days." My first V8 was a small journal 327 I rebuilt and put in my '68 Chevelle. It was from a '64 Impala SS. Had "power-pack" heads, and cost me all of $40 at the junk yard. That was one of the best mills I ever had. MC
Sure it could be a typo.
