Jake's 34 I have an A1 Torque Converter for a 350 Turbo, believe about 2200 stall. I bought it some 23 years ago but never used it, still in the box. Friends needs one I offered to give it to him but not sure if it is useable. Never had one apart not sure whats in there that could have dried out and leak. Looking for advise from a transmission guy or at least someone that knows more about them than I do. Thanks

Take the plastic shipping cap off of the hub(it does have one right?) and look inside with a light for any water, rust or debris.Old THM350 non lock up torque converters don't have any seals in em or rubber components or gears or clutches,so if clean it should be ok.Check the hub for rust or scratches etc.Put bout a quart of ATF in it and a dab of grease on the hub before installing it into the trans and it should be good to go.Now if it is a lock-up type ( the trans will have a nub on the front of the input shaft with an o-ring and a wire connector on the left side of the trans and the converter you have has a bore way down inside for that nub and o-ring)then I would not use it at all.Chances are the clutch will disentegrate rather quickly after sitting that long.

Thanks Dakotah appreciate the help. It is the non-lockup and does have a plastic shipping cap on the hub. Just took a look at it and it is real clean, looks as new, no water, rust or debri of any kind. Never was out of the box and I taped it shut after looking at it when I bought it years ago. Thanks.

Gary - I ran a-1 converters in all my comp eliminator drag cars and never had a problem with them- what dahcota says is dead on in my opinion - no rust no dirt should be great

Mac A1 converter is what I used in my 32 doing the old time drags thing. One I had in it never gave me any problems but was too high of a stall for street use. Bought this one when converting it back to street use but wound up guy offered more than the car was worth at the time so I sold it. Too bad they don't sell like that now and I wish I had kept the thing anyway. Oh well, as you say--just another deal.
