TYCHOOCHOO I have a 1" corvette style master. It's mounted under the drivers side floor. There is no room for a vacuum canister. What other options do I have to give me better braking? I have 4 wheel disk. Does anyone know of a company that makes something I can use?

I usually don't answer a question with a question or non-direct answer but I did manage to put a 7" booster under the Willys.  One thing you may want to look at is mounting the booster/master more toward the back with a longer rod from the pedal to the booster.  Other option is a remote booster but you must have a fruit jar M/C.  I think there is also a hydraulic boost system too.  Runs off a pump like power steering.

1" is probably right for disc/disc.  Yes, it is called Hydroboost... Tommy, if you can find a small diaeter booster.. look for a "dual diaphram."

Jeff, I need to check into it, never heard of them.

Sam, I don't have (I don't think) enough room on the fire wall. Too tight.

Mark, Where would I find them?

A Hydroboost unit?  You should be able to score one on Ebay.  But, before you go that route, read up about it, and explore your other options.  It does not look to be a "easy" project.  It basically is a hydraulic pump that replaces the brake booster.  It requires a pump and hoses to run it.  I THINK it may tie into the power steering pump (if you have one).  These units were used on diesel trucks and such that did not have enough vacuum to run a booster.  Google it.  MC

If you mean a dual diaphram booster, also on eBay.  Look for 7 inch dual diaphram booster.  I just had to switch mine over.  I had  a 9" (firewall) on my project and it was hitting the rockers.  I switched to a 7" dual, and it worked like a charm.  I paid $80 including shipping and the new pedal linkage.

6 1/2 in can and 8 in overall. not a huge booster but beats none . unless your at 268 or larger you should be ok on vacuume . ford makes a small booster that fits well under the car.

ECI makes a brake pressure multiplier, I've only seen it advertised, don't have any hands on experience with it.

In the  eighty's and ninety's  TCI ,Pete & Jake's ,Lobeck's  and a lot of frame manufactures ran the Midland Booster on there  frames  that they made , Never had a problem running them and sold a lot off them in the store. Disc brakes in the front and drums in the rear and also you could ren 4 wheel disc with them.  But the only probem is they run a( fruit jar) single master cylinder  in which almost all car manufacture 's ran back before disc brakes ! The big move to the dual master cylinder was that the plant manufacture that was making them had a fire and burned to the ground and took almost a year to get back up making them and everybody scrambled looking for a brake system ! I ran that system on a lot of cars and never had any problems !!  AND IT'S NOT A HYDROBOOST SYSTEM THAT WORKS OFF OF YOUR STEERING PUMP ! Like Don said  the they work !!!

    Jake's 34

In conversation with Barry Lobeck way back, probably early 90's shortly after he took over and renamed the business Lobeck's, he talked me out of using a booster. Told me he did not use them on light cars, 32's 34's and had never needed one. I did not run one on my 32 nor on the 34 I now have. As I remember his reasoning was as Don mentioned, with a booster it would throw you hard forward in a panic stop and require too light a foot in normal driving. Not a builder so only experience was my own cars which were disc/drums but I took Barry's advise. He did recommend them on heavier cars. Only thing I  notice is little more foot pressure to hold it at lights. That was lot of years ago--things change.

Ok all this information is great. I have another question, Why is my peddle so hard, I have to mash it down and hold it or the car pulls forward. Hard to lock up for panic stop. What could be causing that, the brakes have been bled a couple of times? Could it be old calipers or what? RPMs  not to fast, 600-650 in drive.

Maybe you have a power master cylinder instead of manual or not enough pedal ratio (leverage)??

Has anybody used the ECI brake pressure multiplier or has anyone heard anything about it good or bad? It seems like it can be mounted anywhere and just bring the brake lines to it. I'm wondering if it's worth it.

Ditto with JAKES34...........over 72,000 miles on our '33 Sedan Delivery without PB. It has been up & down the Blue Ridge Mountains many times. City traffic here in Washington DC and many other major cities. Cruized from New York to Florida to OK City and "all points in between" = ZZ TOP..........

I have never built on owned a 1934 or older rod with PB or PS.

Midland was the hot lick circa 1981. Used on motor homes initially. Many draw backs today. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.............
