Going to convert my old Chevy distributor from points to electronic module. Any one have any preferences, as to which brand to consider, or which to avoid? I know there are quite a few companies offering these. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with any particular kit. Thanks.

If you need the small diameter, pick up an aftermarket HEI with the matching coil. it will be more dependable than a conversion. If you want to retain the oem look, then Petronix has  the best reputation.

Pro Comp makes both Hei large unit and the small one !  Just got one for my 72 chev factory big block this weekend at the NSRA show for  $50.00   brand new ! They have come down from $100. couple years ago . Have put a lot of them in and never had a problem with them .

I get the cheapest HEI unit I can.  Like Taz says $50 bucks or less.  I then put in an ACCEL spark unit, Mr. Gasket springs and weights, and a MSD coil.  A little over $100 total and you can have a nice performance unit...  MC

I've had a Petronix conversion in my distributor of over 8 years and not a problem.  If that's they way you choose to go over the HEI then Petronix gets my vote.

Thanks for all the input.  Don't have much room and want to keep the " look "  so I probably will go with Pertronix Ignitor II.
