  • This is a long shot but check to see if your lingage when you let off is not pinching a hot ignition wire from your distributer or other hot wire causing a short.

  • Spray some carb cleaner around the base of the carb. Does the engine speed up? Spray along intake manifold both sides next. Speed up?

  • Mechanical or electric pump? A few years ago I had a similar issue in my '46 Chevy with an electric pump. The problem was my fuel pressure was too high for the Edelbrock 600 on my 350 Chevy. Edelbrock carbs and AFB's are pretty similar. I was told by Edelbrock not to have more than 4-4 1/2 pounds of fuel pressure or run the risk of blowing out the needle and seat, which happened to me. After rebuilding the carb and adding an inexpensive adjustable fuel regulator, the problem was solved.
