The Gasket
The Gasket. I have never seen RTV used for an exhaust gasket. Looks like it may have held up for a while. Willie Moore Streetrodding

  • Permatex RTV
Had a header leak at the head during the NSRA Nats. Got a tube from Auto Zone. Operated...........removed all hard ware, smeared both sides of the 31 year old gasket = no leaks.....................that was 9 years ago, har, har.

  • It's high temp RTV and is good to go for exhaust. That material is used in Aerospace all the time. Many gaskets are molded out of it and infused with fiber.for support. I use iit on problem joints often...only thing is you have to give it proper time to set and dry. I used in on my SBC for header gaskets. Cheap headers that didnt want to stay sealed. Nice small bead keeps it undetectable. I first used it back when 5.0 Mustangs had the shorty headers. Seals that spherical face up nicely...hope this helps

  • I have never read the tube but might be a good time to start.. I just figured it would be too hot for that. Maybe the guy was on to something Willie Moore Streetrodding

  • I am sure I remember reading the directions on a tube of RTV and it saying it could be used for exhaust joints. Don;t remember which brand but the idea was out there. Didn't convince me to try it.
